Business filers in Wisconsin should consider filing a name reservation application if they feel like their operating name is at risk of being used by another entity. Once accepted, a reservation grants either 60 or 120 days (depending on the entity type) in which a name’s availability is guaranteed. Reservations in this state cost $15 for profit corporations and limited liability companies, and cost $10 for non-stock corporations and limited partnerships. It is important to note that there are no reservation documents available for limited liability partnerships. Regardless of the type of entity being reserved, a business search should be performed prior to reservation to check the name’s availability.
