Reserving a business name in Utah is a simple procedure that can be accomplished in a matter of mintues. The Division of Corporations and Commercial Code has made available a PDF application through which a name can be reserved for period of 120 days. Prospective business owners may find this useful as a name reservation application will guarantee the availability of a name and ensure no other business is able to file under it while you prepare for registration. Performing an entity search prior to reservation is recommended as it will verify whether or not the name being reserved is indeed available for use. All name reservations will cost a total of $22.
How to Reserve
Step 1- Begin by downloading the Application for Reservation of Business Name.
Step 2- Continue by supplying the following information:
- Specify nature of the application (new filing)
- Name to be reserved
- Intended business use of the reserved name
- Name of the applicant
- Entity number (if a registered business)
- Applicant’s address
Step 3- The application can be filed by mail, fax, or in person. A fee of $22 must be attached regardless of the chosen filing method. Fees can be payed by check or money order made out to the State of Utah when filing by mail.
