The two filings options available are both simple and straight forward, allowing you to request by mail, or online. To apply through the mail you must first download the South Dakota Certificate Request Form, available in PDF format. The document must then be completed and mailed to the Secretary of State. Those filing online may complete the whole process with the online filing system provided. Both methods of application will require a $20 filing fee to complete your request.
How to Request Certificate (Mail)
Step 1- Start by downloading the South Dakota Certificate Request Form that the state has provided.
Step 2- Once downloaded, the following information must be submitted:
- Name of the company or individual requesting the certificate
- Telephone number
- Contact person
- Street address to receive forms
- Mailing address to receive forms
- Email address
- Corporate ID
- Entity name

How to Request a Certificate (Online)
Step 1- The request for a certificate can be made online by first navigating to this website , then entering either your business name or business ID. Click Search to continue.
Step 2- Your business ID number will be displayed on the left, select it to continue.
Step 3- You must now select the Obtain a Certificate of Good Standing link, circled in the picture below.
Step 4- The following page will require you to choose a payment option. Once selected, enter your credit or PAD account information into the entry fields provided. To finalize your request, click Submit.
