This webpage has been created to assist business owners through the process of obtaining a Certificate of Existence from the Secretary of State’s office in South Carolina. A Certificate of Existence (often referred to as a certificate of good standing) is a document that is used to indicate a business’s standing with the Secretary of State when attempting to apply for registration in a foreign state or when requesting financing. Making a request for this certificate is simple and can be accomplished by completing the requisite PDF and mailing it to the Secretary of State along with a $10 filing fee.
How to Request
Step 1- To make a request for a certificate of existence, begin by downloading the Document Request Form.
Step 2- The information required for this form is as follows:
- Date of request
- Person requesting
- Contact number
- Name of entity
- Date of incorporation
- Select the type of document being requested (certificate of existence)
Step 3- Once this application has been downloaded and completed correctly, you will need to attach a check or money order made out to the Secretary of State for the $10 filing fee. Both articles must then be forwarded to the address below.
