In this guide, we’ll examine the manner in which individuals can place a hold on their proposed entity name prior to registration. The Business Filing Department has provided filers with the opportunity to file both through the mail and online, the processes for which have been described in detail below.Regardless of the method of submission, the filing fee will remain at $10 and the duration of the reservation is set 60 days. Before we begin, if you are reserving through the use of PDF form, it would be wise to perform a Business Entity Search to ensure that the name you’re trying to reserve isn’t already registered in Oklahoma. Online filers needn’t worry about this step as it is incorporated into the process already.
How to Reserve (Online)
Step 1- It is not mandatory that you have an online account to perform a name reservation, however, if you plan on managing your entity through the portal, it would be wise the review our tutorial on account registration. Regardless, you will need to begin by navigating to this webpage and clicking on the Name Reservation option.
Step 2- You will be asked to submit your personal name and email address if you are not an account holder.
Step 3- Click the Start New button to start a new work ID, aka a new filing.
Step 4- This step is simply indicating that the documents you are submitting are being filed pursuant to a certain set of statutes. Click Next to continue.
Step 5- The first information that will be asked of you is the name to be reserved. Once submitted, click on the magnifying glass button beside the search field to ensure that it is indeed available. If there are no results found, you may proceed to the next step.
Step 6- The information deemed necessary by the department is as follows:
- Type of applicant
- Name of applicant
- Applicant’s full address
- Applicant email
Step 7- This last page will ask that you provide your signature. Begin by clicking Add Signature then select whether you are signing as an individual or a business entity. The bottom field will demand that you type your name as submitted in the previous sections before clicking Insert Signature.
Step 8- You will be able to review the information that you’ve submitted on the next page before clicking Continue. The secondary page will have you reviewing the filing fee then clicking Begin Checkout.
Step 9- If you have an online account, you will be required to enter in your username and password to continue to check out. If not, you may continue as guest if you don’t plan on frequenting the Secretary of State website.
Step 10- If you have a pre-paid, online account, you may pay with it by selecting the Client Account option. Otherwise, select the Add a Payment Method link and choose between the credit card and ACH payment option. Provide your billing info and on the next page review the submitted data and officially submit the filing to the Business Filing Department to complete the name reservation process.
How to Reserve (PDF)
Step 1- An alternative to the online filing system is the use of a PDF to complete the name reservation. All that will be required of you is to download this form and open it in the PDF viewer of your choice.
Step 2- The information needed is as follows:

- 3- Name of applicant
- 4- Address of applicant
