Obtaining a Certificate of Fact for a given entity- the document which states, officially, the status of an entity in the eyes of the Secretary of State of Montana- is a simple process which can be completed completely online for the fee of $15. The process resembles that of the Business Entity Search, as the two utilize the same web portal. Individuals will need a certificate of fact if they intend to either extend their in-state entity out of state or if they are attempting to take out a significant bank loan.

How to Request

Step 1- You must, as mentioned above, navigate to the entity search homepage. From here, enter the name of the entity you wish to obtain a certificate for.

mt-business-search-1Step 3- From the business summary page for a given entity you will be able to purchase the certificate by selecting Get Certificate of Fact at the top of the page.


Step 4- To continue, you must now enter the following information into the purchasing form:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone Number
  • Additional Information


Step 5- Select Continue from the invoice page if you assent to the listed amount ($15).
