Business owners and representatives who believe that their chosen business name may be at risk of being registered by another entity may want to consider a name reservation filing. This option allows filers the ability to put a hold on their entity name while getting their affairs in order to register with the Secretary of State. In Missouri, a filing of this variety costs a total of $25 and is valid for a period of 60 days. After the two months have expired, the reservation can be renewed for up to 2 more 60 day cycles. Reservations can be conducted online and through downloading the PDF here on our website. The sole exception to this rule is if you plan to file as an LLP, if this is the case, you will be asked to pay a filing fee of $30.
Before beginning, we recommend that you perform a Business Entity Search to ensure that the name you plan on filing for has not already been registered by another corporation, LLC or partnership in the state of Missouri.
How to Reserve (Online)
Step 1- First thing you’ll need to do is access your online account by submitting your login credentials into the provided fields on this website. If you don’t currently have an online account, you can utilize our tutorial to learn more about the registration process.
Step 2- Once logged in, you should be able to see a number of links that lead to a variety of functions available to account holders. The link you’re looking for is actually the one that says Create a Business Entity.
Step 3- In the first drop down menu labeled Type, choose the Name Reservation option. In the menu below it, you’ll need to choose None before clicking BEGIN to continue.
Step 4- Start by submitting the name to be reserved into the provided field and click on RESERVED BY to move forward.
Step 5- On this page, they will required you to ADD RESERVED BY before continuing to signing the document electronically.
Step 6- Once you’ve selected the aforementioned link, you will have two submission options. The first is to enter the first and last name to be searched and click SEARCH RESERVED BY. The second window displays the results of your query in which you can select the name from the list provided. The other option has been displayed in the third window below in which you can choose the I DO NOT WISH TO SEARCH link to simply enter your name and full address.
Step 7- Once you’ve saved your selection, you will be able to advance to the signing of the name reservation forms.
Step 8- To sign, enter your first and last name into the fields and click SAVE SIGNER.
Step 9- Once all the signers have been added, you will need to click on the check box indicating that you recognize that the provided information is true and correct. After you’ve done this, continue to the shopping cart.
Step 10- In your shopping cart you will be able to see your name reservation filing as well as the price for the filing ($25). Click PAYMENT to continue.
Step 11- The next page will display a payment method selector. Choose between credit card and e-check. As soon as you’ve made your selection, on of the two below windows will present itself.
For credit card payment, you will be asked to provide the following:
- Card type
- Credit card number
- Expiration date
- Name on card
- Country of residence
- Full address
- Phone number
If you’ve decided to pay by electronic check, the following information will be asked of you:
- Name as it appears on check
- Account type
- Address as it appears on check
- Postal code
- Check type
- Bank routing number
- Bank account number
Step 12- To submit the payment and send your application in for processing you must first accept the terms and conditions. When you’ve reviewed them properly, you can click NEXT SUBMIT PAYMENT to do so. This will complete your online name reservation filing.
How to Reserve (PDF)
Step 1- The process of submitting your name reservation form through the mail is considerably more straight forward and requires much less information of you. To begin, download the PDF for the filing form here.
Step 2- Now that you have the PDF open in your PDF viewer, you can submit the following information into its fields:
- Name to be reserved
- Signature of applicant
- Printed name
- Full address
- Name and address to return document
Step 3- Attach to this form a check covering the $25 filing fee and mail both items in an envelope addressed to the below location. The only exception to this price will be if you are reserving for an LLP. In this case, you will be required to pay $30. The submission of this form and fee will mark the completion of your name reservation filing.
