This tutorial will provide for you a guide on how to purchase a Certificate of Existence for your business operating in Kentucky. This form serves as comprehensive proof that a company or corporation is active and in good standing with the state. A similar form, the Certificate of Authorization, can be acquired by foreign entities in the same method and will serve as conclusive evidence that the business has authority to transact business in Kentucky. Both certificates can be used to renew business licenses, apply for loans and the like. The filing can be completed either through the Request for Corporate Documents PDF or through an online business entity search. In both cases, the filing fee will cost all filers $10 per copy.

How to Request (Online)

Step 1- Navigate to the Business Organization Search webpage and enter your business name into the field.


Step 2- Find your name in the list and click on it to proceed to the next step.


Step 3- As long as your business is active and in good standing, you will be able to click on the Certificates drop down menu and click on the Certificate of Existence/Authorization link.


Step 4- Here you will be required to enter the state or jurisdiction and select the payment method (credit card, EFT, prepaid account). Once you’ve completed the payment of the filing fee, you may download the certificate in PDF format.

Step 1- Begin by downloading the request document here.

Step 2- On this form you will need to begin by entering the business name of your corporation, llc or partnership;. You can then indicate whether you wish to obtain a Certificate of Existence or Certificate of Authorization. Below that, you will be able to supply the following information under the heading Requester’s Information:

Under Payment Information select the payment type. For checks, simply supply the filing filing fee into the blank space. Those paying by credit card will need to supply the card number, expiration date and security code. Filers with pre-paid accounts will have to enter the account, agent and pin number.


Step 3- You may mail or fax the document to the Office of the Secretary of State. If you are paying by check, be sure to attach the filing fee to the request form.
