In this brief tutorial we’ll walk you through the acquisition process for a Certificate of Existence. This document is used to prove legitimacy and legality to whichever financial institution or foreign authority demands it. You will find that it’s possible to purchase this certificate using the Secretary of State website ($26) and in turn download it in PDF format to use at your convenience. The Secretary of State will accept payment by credit card, debit card and E-check.

How to Request

Step 1- Start by navigating to this webpage where you can sign in with your online account. If you have yet to create an account, you can do so by following the instructions found in this tutorial.



Step 2- On the left hand side of the screen you will see a series of options to choose from. Select the Online Services link to continue.


Step 3- Now you will need to click on the Secretary of State Business Service Division link followed by Information Request (Orders) to continue.


Step 4- Proceed by selecting Certificate of Existence out of the available options.


Step 5- Enter your business name or business ID into the appropriate field and click Search.


Step 6- A list containing each business name that matches your search will be presented. If you supplied a business ID in the previous step then the results will be limited to that specific ID number. In the Select section, click the small circle to specify the business that you would like to purchase a certificate for. Click Next after you’ve selected an entity.


Step 7- The $26 filing fee will be displayed on the following page. Simply click Checkout to proceed.


Step 8- Lastly, specify your method of payment and provide your billing information. Click Continue to proceed to the final stage of this filing process and officially submit your request.
