A Certificate of Existence, sometimes known as a certificate of status or a certificate of good standing, is necessary for any entities wishing to expand across state and national lines, for those wishing to acquire bank loans, and more. As in most states, acquiring a certificate of existence from the Secretary of State is easy, inexpensive ($5) and can be completed online. How to Request
Step 1- To begin, navigate to the business database homepage. This page houses a sleek search function by which you can discover a given entity. If you know the specific business number of your entity, enter it into the provided field. If not, enter the entity’s name to the best of your ability and select search.
Step 2- Individuals who opted to search by business name will see before them, once the search is completed, a list generated by the search protocol of all businesses matching the entered criteria. To continue to a business’s business entity summary select the blue business number to the left of the business’s name.
Step 3- Individuals who searched by business number will have redirected automatically to this page. To acquire a Certificate of Existence select Print Certificate of Existence and wait to be redirected to the payment form.
Step 4- As you can see, you can pay by either credit card or through a pre-established Secretary of State account. Select your desired payment type to continue.
Individuals with a Secretary of State account need only input their account number, PIN, account reference (optional) and select Submit Payment Now to gain access to a PDF version of the certificate of existence.
Individuals paying by card must input the following data to complete their purchase and thus gain access to the PDF certificate for their desired entity:
- Company name
- Full name
- Phone number
- Card type
- Expiration date
- Card number
